- Message from UNESCO Director General
Last year, at the 33rd session of UNESCO's General Conference, the Member States decided to declare 27 October as World Day for Audiovisual Archives, noting that this heritage is testimony "to the economic, political and social development, the evolution of education, scientific knowledge, and diversity of cultures of different nations and communities, as well as to the evolution of nature and the universe".

SEAPAVAA Joins World Day for Audio-Visual Heritage
The South East Asia Pacific Audio Visual Archive Association joins UNESCO and the international archive community in commemorating the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage come October 27.

October 27: World Day for Audiovisual Heritage
Can you remember where you were and what you were doing when you witnessed, by television or radio, the destruction of the World Trade Center in New York on the 11th of September, 2001? Or during the Indian Ocean Tsunami of 26 December 2004? Or during the first Moon landing on that historic day of 20 July 1969? The list is endless of these seminal, unforgettable events in living memory, marker points in history and events which our children and our children's children must see and hear.

Philippines: In celebration of the World Audiovisual Day annually organized by UNESCO on 27 October, the Philippines will launch the National Film Literacy Program that seeks to introduce to the public especially the educational community, the importance of film literacy to appreciate the country's AV heritage.
Thailand: The Government of Thailand is proceeding with its plan to establish the Royal Private Film Archive as the place to preserve His Majesty the King's moving and still pictures. The project is part of the celebrations of His Majesty's 80th birthday this year.
