Boy Scout workshop for APR correspondents set June 22-25
QUEZON CITY, May 30 (PIA) -- The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) announced Tuesday it will host the first Asia-Pacific Region (APR) Scouting Workshop for Correspondents, organized by the World Scout Organization’s Asia-Pacific Region in Los Baños, Laguna on June 22-25.
BSP said in a press release the venue is at the Executive Hall at Philippine Scouting Center for APR, Mt. Makiling, Los Baños, Laguna. It is expected to draw 50 correspondents from 25 member countries of the World Scout Organization’s Asia-Pacific Region.
The workshop offers opportunity for honorary correspondents to meet and share strategies on how to set and sustain communication standards for national Scout organizations in a global context and to enhance their journalistic skills.
“The Asia pacific regional workshop for honorary correspondents for scouting is the first of its kind in world scouting,” Abdullah Rasheed, Regional Director of Scouting for Asia-Pacific Region said.
Rasheed said the workshop also aims to strengthen the correspondents' contribution in identifying good news, features and stories to highlight the active role played by thousands of Scouts across the region in making a difference in their community and in their own lives.
The workshop is also open to the coordinators of the “Messenger of Peace” Scout projects, young correspondents, young spokespersons and personnel responsible for their national Scout organizations publication.
Some of the guest lecturers will be from the World Scout Bureau office in Geneva and various respected journalists from Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines.
The Asia-Pacific Region has over 24.7 million Scouts memberships with eight of the 15 largest Scout associations in the world located in the region. The Asia-Pacific Scout Region head office is located in Makati City. Vice President Jejomar Binay is the current Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Chairman. (BSP/PIA-NCR/RJB/JRCA)
