Women urged to take more active role in bringing change
DAVAO DEL NORTE, April 4 (PIA) -- A TV personality has urged the women of Davao to take a more active role in bringing change in their own communities.
TV Personality Korina Sanchez-Roxas enjoined the women leaders of Davao del Norte, saying, “It is time for women to take over the job of bringing change in our society.”
Sanchez-Roxas related how women have truly come a long way in our society, as she hailed their ability to breeze through their busy schedules juggling family and career, among other responsibilities.
“I believe in the power and intelligence of women,” Sanchez-Roxas told the women leaders during the recent Women Peace Fair at the Bulwagan ng Lalawigan, Mankilam, Tagum City, this province.
The province held the event to culminate the Women’s Role in History Month, with the theme, “Babae: Kabalikat sa Pagtugon ng Kapayapaan at Pabagu-bagong Kalikasan (Women partners in peace and development).”
The TV host said the best traits of a woman, including her ability to manage parenting and work obligations, among other duties, makes her an excellent agent of change in the society.
Inspite of their busy schedule as wives, mothers and career ladies, she asked the women to still find time to get involve in their respective communities.
“May panahong nakaatang sa ating balikat para sa ating lipunan. Dahil kung hindi naman tayo lalabas ng ating tahanan ay papano na ang ating komunidad (We have a responsibility towards our community and it will suffer if we do not get out of the confines of our homes and reach out to our neighborhood),” she said.
She also urged them to take an active role in mitigating climate change, citing that the women, especially in the rural areas, are the most vulnerable to bear the impact of climate change.
However, she warned them to be cautious of their power to make or unmake things.
As she puts it, “With all her power and glory, a woman can be an agent of unity or discord, of construction or destruction, of clarity or confusion, and of sobriety or hysteria.”
In his response, governor Rodolfo P. del Rosario attested to the accuracy of all the traits of a woman, as enumerated by Sanchez-Roxas.
“Totoo ang lahat ng sinabi ni Miss Korina dahil yan po ang nakita ko sa aking nag-iisang asawa na si Inday (All that Miss Korina have said were true judging from what I have seen from my only wife Inday),” he said. (Noel Baguio-Dn PIO/JDA/PIAXI)
