Thursday 1st of March 2012KIANGAN, Ifugao, Mar. 1 (PIA) -- Women housekeepers of Barangay Jucab this municipality are set to attend a 10-day training on corsage, bouquet, soap carving and souvenir production in their barangay hall in order to equip themselves with skills as other means of earning a living and generate additional income for their families.
The skills training aims to capacitate the women housekeepers and widen their horizon to become successful business partners, assets in their families and community and enabling them to be competitive in the local and even in the world market. It also enables women to become self-employed and become productive influence to their families and community.
The training was made possible with the municipal government’s assistance by providing materials, tools and food needed by the trainees upon the proposal of Wilma Pumihic, a mobile teacher under the Alternative Learning System (ALS) of the Department of Education assigned in the area and handling non-formal education and basic literacy education to the housekeepers.
She said that she proposed the training because she observed that the housewives are mostly engaged in daily income wage activities during harvest seasons and that some became gardeners yet financial constraints still prevail among their families. They are very much burdened on their daily financial needs like their kids’ school supplies and daily snacks hence there is a need for them to find more income to combat detrimental stress brought by money problems, she added.
The trainees said they will exhaust all the materials to maximize the production of finished items for sale during the graduation ceremony of the elementary schools in their place and the proceeds shall become their organization’s capital or ALS fund.(JDP/DBC-PIA CAR Ifugao)
