DOT gives free tour guiding seminar

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Sept. 27 (PIA) -- 35 participants benefit from the Department of Tourism (DOT) initiated Tour Guiding seminar being held today, September 27 until the 29th in one of the local hotels here.

The three-day basic tour guiding seminar according to DOT Regional Director Mary June Bugante is a pre requisite to proceeding to the 21-days Advance Tour Guiding class of which participants will be issued their tour guiding accreditation/license.

The said tour guiding seminar includes techniques in basic tour guiding, how to conduct a tour, duties and responsibilities of a tour guide, escorting a guest and communication skills.

Participants will be exposed to hands on training where they will showcase what they have learned

The seminar was given for free by the tourism department to help the city boost its tourism industry by producing pool of accredited and trained tour guides in the city.

Bugante said, there are only two accredited/licensed tour guides in the city.

The participants are all graduates of a four-year course and have passed the stringent screening conducted by the DOT.

Bugante explained “si tiene grupo tan biahe, bueno kel tiene tour guide para dale informacion del un lugar” (if there are groups that travel, it would be better to have a tour guide to give information about a particular place or destination). (JPA/PIA 9-Zambo City)
