Stat office gears up activities for 23rd statistics month celeb
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental, Aug 18 (PIA) -- The National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB-10) is now coordinating with regional line agencies for the implementation of various activities for this year’s National Statistics Month (NSM) celebration.
Brenda Lynn M. Castro, officer-in-charge of NSCB-10, said they are still planning activities to undertake for the NSM celebration.
“We are now disseminating the NSCB Memorandum Circular and the NSM calendar of activities form to all regional line agencies for them to list down the activities that they are planning to do this October,” she said.
She said the Regional Statistical Coordinating Council (RSCC) will also be calling a meeting anytime this month to discuss and consolidate all the activities to be carried out during the month-long celebration.
The NCSB issued Memorandum Circular No. 01-12 to enjoin all government agencies, local government units, academic institutions, and the private sector to actively participate in and support the celebration.
Pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No.647 declaring the month of October of every year as the national statistics month, the celebration aims to promote, enhance and instill awareness and appreciation of the value of statistics to the different sectors of the society.
Now on its 23rd year, the October NSM celebration will have the theme, “Monitoring Progress on Decent Work through Statistics: Pathway to Inclusive Growth,” to underscore the importance of statistics in the labor sector.
The NSCB is calling media practitioners from print, broadcast and online news service to submit entries to the fourth NSM Media Awards.
The NSM Media Awards is annual search that recognizes media practitioners who have made significant contributions in promoting, popularizing and using statistics in information dissemination and other relevant purposes.
It is open to all Filipino media reporters affiliated with local and national news organization or company in both government and private sectors.
Interested applicants have until August 31, 2012 to submit entries. The mechanics and criteria for the search can be accessed through the NSM Media Awards website at http://www.nscb.gov.ph/nsm/MediaAwards. (APB-PIA10)
