National greening project to headline DepEd activities

OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental, May 13 (PIA) -- The PNOY One Billion (1B) Trees Project will headline the activities of the Department of Education (DepEd), during School Year (SY) 2012-2013.

In a department order, Education Secretary, Br. Armin A. Luistro, FSC, said that tree planting activities will be held on Saturdays, beginning June 2012 until March 2013.

The SY 2012-2013 starts on June 4, 2012, the beginning of classes and ends on March 22, 2013, the last day of classes.

The PNOY 1B Trees Project” is DepEd’s commitment to support the National Greening Program (NGP) the Aquino Administration to protect the environment, said Rebonfamil Baguio, Asst. Superintendent of the Ozamiz City Schools Division.

Below are the following school activities and core of events/celebrations mandated by law for SY 2012-2013:

For Year 2012:

May – “Brigada Eskwela” or National Schools Maintenance Week (May 21-26) and the In-Service Training (INSET) Planning Week.

June – Opening of classes, Independence Day (June 12, a regular holiday), World Environment Day, and Safe Kids Week (June 11-15).

July – National Nutrition Month, National Disaster Consciousness and Preparedness Month, National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week (July 11-17), Science and Technology Week and Savings Credit Consciousness Week.

August – 1st Quarter Examinations, Sight Savings Month, “Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa” (National Language Month), White Cane Day (Aug. 1), International Youth Day, Ninoy Aquino Day (special non-working holiday), National Heroes Day (regular holiday), National Career Assessment Examination, and Eid’l Fitr (legal holiday, tentative).

September – Crime Prevention Month, Clean and Green Month, Literacy Month, Science and Math Week, “Linggo ng Kasuotang Filipino” (National Costumes Week), History Week and International Day of Peace (September 21).

October – 2nd Quarter Examinations, World Teachers Day (Oct. 5), Children’s Month, Scouting Month, Week of the Elderly (Oct. 1-5), Global Hand Washing Day, National Health Education Week, National Leadership Training for Student Government Officers, “Eid-l Adha” (special holiday, tentative), National Level Science and Math Fair (secondary level), and Mid-Year Assessment, INSET for teachers and Semestral Break (for students only).

November – National Reading Month, Malaria Awareness Month, All Saints Day (special Non-working day), Philippine Education Placement Test, Deaf Awareness Prevention Week (Nov. 12-16), Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Week, National Youth Day, and Bonifacio Day.

December – World Aids Day, Education Week, Human Rights Week and Christmas Break (Dec. 22, 2012 to Jan. 2, 2013).

For Year 2013:

January – Resumption of classes (Jan. 3), 3rd Quarter Examination, National Cancer Consciousness Week (Jan. 14-18), Autism Consciousness Week (Jan. 7-13), Breast Cancer Consciousness Week, Early Registration Day for SY 2013-2014, (January 26, Saturday).

February – Philippine Arts Month, National Children With Intellectual Disabilities Week (Feb. 14-18), National Dental/Oral Health Week, “Bantay Puso” (Heart Care) Week, Leprosy Prevention Week, EDSA Revolution Anniversary (special holiday for all schools).

March – National Achievement Test for Grades 3, 6 and Fourth Year High School, Women’s Month, Fire Prevention Month, Global Peace Festival, Career Guidance Week, Girl Child Week and Graduation Ceremonies.

April – Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, “Araw ng Kagitingan” (regular holiday), Festival of Talents and Start of Summer Classes.
