Eastern Samar to get Oz aid for climate change adaptation
BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar, May 10 (PIA) -- Eastern Samar province is set to receive an aid from the government of Australia as mentioned in a consultative conference held recently at the Provincial Governor’s Conference(PGO) Hall with key stakeholders and representatives of the Australian government.
The conference aimed to come up with project proposals on child-centered community-based adaptation programs which could help children and their communities in increasing their resiliency to the changing world climate.
A report said that Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, and Southern Leyte had been selected by the donor country because of the vulnerability of these provinces to disaster as a result of climate change.
It added, that Philippines ranks third in the World Index as one that is extremely vulnerable to Climate Change. Thus, the concern of this aid is to provide assistance to children who are most affected by disasters, be it natural or man-made, in their respective homes and families or in the community.
Slated to begin in July and end in December this year, the entire project aims, among others, to 1) give access to information of vulnerable boys and girls and broaden their knowledge on the impact of Climate Change, 2) localize Climate Change Action Plans, and 3) empower children and communities in advocating Climate Change mitigation.(AEN-PIA 8, Eastern Samar)
