TACLOBAN CITY, LEYTE, Feb16 (PIA) – Commuters are currently stranded along the Abuyog-Silago Road due to three landslides that occurred due continuous rains in the area.
OCD Region 8 Director Rey Gozon said that the DPWH maintenance crew is already in the area to conduct clearing operations. The crew has been directed by DPWH Region 8 Director Rolando Asis not to leave the area unless the clearing operations are completed.
Gozon added that the Police have been contacted to secure the area because commuters are still in the area.It is still impassable as of press time.
There are also reports about flooding in the province of Leyte, reaching even four feet in Barangay Bunga in Abuyog, Leyte stranding a family of seven. Rubber boats have been dispatched to the area. In the public market of Abuyog, flood waters are a foot high.
According to Paul Mooney of the Leyte Provincial DRRMC, Barangay San Jose of Burauen, Leyte was also flooded which caused 19 families or 72 persons to evacuate.
The PDRRMC continues to monitor the situation in the different municipalities and cities of the province of Leyte, Mooney said.
Meanwhile, the public, specially in disaster-prone areas are advised to be vigilant in monitoring the water situation in their respective areas and to take the necessary step to avoid being stranded.
Mooney also called on local DRRMCs to report to the PDRRMC and RDRRMCs the current situations in their areas.(PIA8)
