Biliran PNC, MNAOs to plan activities for 2012 nutrition month celebration

NAVAL, Biliran, June 21 (PIA) – The members of the Biliran Provincial Nutrition Committee (PNC) will meet the Municipal Nutrition Action Officers (MNAOs) of the eight municipalities of Biliran province on Thursday, June 21 at the Biliran Provincial Hospital Conference Hall in Naval, Biliran at 8:00 o’clock in the morning.

In a letter-invitation sent to the Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Biliran Provincial Information Center being one of the committee members, Dr. Alfonso Veneracion, Provincial Health Officer who is also the Provincial Nutrition Action Officer (PNAO) said that the main agenda of the conference is the discussion of the results of the 2011 Provincial Nutrition Evaluation.

He informed that the results and findings of the 2011 nutrition evaluation will serve as a benchmark in improving the implementation of the activities and projects of the PNC relative to the nutrition program of Biliran province.

He added that the activities to be conducted in celebration of the Nutrition Month in July 2012 in Biliran province will form part of the agenda of the meeting.

The PNC will consult and coordinate with the MNAOs regarding the activities they will conduct in their respective municipalities to highlight July as Nutrition month.

This year’s Nutrition Month celebration will focus on the promotion of vegetables as an important dish in the daily meal of every Filipino family.

In the municipality of Naval, the capital town of Biliran province, Ms. Nascencia Abad, the MNAO informed in an interview recently that families in the 26 barangays of Naval town were mandated to have their own backyard garden to be assured of a continuous supply of fresh vegetables everyday.
