DUMAGUETE CITY, July 5 (PIA) -- The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) launched its first classroom on wheels through the Mobile Training Classroom Plus Park and Train Program (MBC-PTP) recently in Canlaon City.

According to TESDA Information Officer Geraldine delos Reyes, the van is equipped with welding equipment, and machines and tools for mobile training.

This is an alternative modality of delivering quality-assured technical-vocational programs at the doorstep of every community, said delos Reyes.

The skills training include Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II, Masonry NC II, and Carpentry NC II.

Of the first 25 participants from Canlaon City, the training on welding started June and will end August 2, while a second batch of 25 trainees for masonry and carpentry starts this month, said delos Reyes.

The Cebu Science of Welding and Skills Technology Inc. (CSWSTI), the training provider of the MBC-PTP, is the first training institution with approved mobile registered programs in Negros Oriental. It oversees the set-up of equipment in the city.

The Mobile Training Park and Train is one of the latest initiatives of TESDA to reach out to individuals located in remote areas who may not have the resources to enroll in training schools. (mbcn/JCT/PIA 7, Negros Oriental)
