‘OURFood’ project gets NegOcc support

BACOLOD CITY, June 21 (PIA6) -- Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo G. Marañon expressed his support to the OURFood-Negros project to be implemented in the province, during a forum held at the Governor’s Office recently, a press release from Capitol said.

The forum was participated by Negrense farmers and personnel from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA), Negros Island Sustainable and Development (NISARD) Foundation, and Association of Negros Producers (ANP), among others.

OURFood is an acronym for Optimization & Upscaling of Roles in the Supply Chain of Food. It aims to make effective use of resources in the business areas and to raise capabilities to a higher level in order to hold micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) along the supply chain of food.

The project is funded by the German Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development and administered by the German Organization for Qualification and Training.

Dr. Stephun Khunz, OURFood country representative said they have already identified potential farmers in Negros Occidental and in Negros Oriental to incorporate in a system with the end goal of providing them a better livelihood.

Khunz said they have markets in Metro Gaisano, resorts and restaurants in Cebu, and retail shops in Negros Occidental and Oriental.

Marañon said the initiative of OURFood Negros is in connection with the provincial government’s program on agriculture and food security.

The project seeks to attain improved product quality and compliance with product and production standards to contribute and enhance competitiveness and sustainable entrepreneurship of MSMEs engaged in food production and processing.*(Capitol News/CD/JCM/PIA6)
