NSO undertakes Consumer Expectations Survey
VIRAC, Catanduanes, July 5 (PIA) -– The National Statistics Office in the province is conducting the July 2012 Consumer Expectations Surveys (CES) from July 2 to 14.
The survey will collect comprehensive information on business conditions of the country in the household sector.
NSO Catanduanes provincial chief Elisa Solares said Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) contracted the NSO to conduct the CES for data collection and encoding of the questionnaires.
The central bank will do the generation of tables and analysis of the results.
Solares said CES is a household-based survey on the consumers’ assessment of their financial situation, the country’s economic condition and the government’s overall performance.
She said the survey intends to provide a quick and regular evaluation of both the consumers and the Philippine economy’s financial condition at present and in the near the future, from the consumers’ own point of views.
It will also generate forecasts in the directions of the country’s economic activity based on the consumers’ outlook in the next 12 months.
The provincial chief added that consumer spending and saving decisions are important influences in determining the course of the national economy. The core questions cover the areas of consumer sentiments namely personal finances, business conditions and buying conditions.
Respondents for the survey will be household heads or any member of the household present during the interview that can provide reliable answers to questions asked.
Data gathered from the survey will be for statistical purposes only and will be published in summary forms. Information obtained will be held strictly confidential, will not be used for investigation, taxation and law enforcement purposes and will not be divulged to any person, except authorized NSO personnel, performing their duties.
In the province, Solares noted that two sample barangays, will be interviewed, covering 14 sample households in Barangay Icanbato and Maysuram, Caramoran.
The reporting unit is the household which means that the statistics emanating from this undertaking will refer to the characteristics of the population residing in private households. (MAL/EAB/NSO/PIA 5)
