Palawan disaster council opens static display
PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, July 25 (PIA) -- The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) held a static display at the Provincial Capitol on July 23. This was one of its major activities in the observation of July as National Disaster Consciousness Month.
The static display was formally opened by Provincial Administrator Elena Rodriguez with Provincial Legal Officer and PDRRM Officer Winston Gonzalez in a simple ceremony attended by the members of the council.
With the theme “Ligtas na Bayan, Maunlad na Pamayanan,” the static display features instruments and equipment used by the provincial government and council-agency members in the conduct and operation of disaster management in all its phases.
An important item in the exhibit is the Flood Early Warning System (FEWS), an instrument that the PDRRMO is setting up in the 20 flood-prone areas that alert the community on the rising level of floods.
Also in the exhibit is a big rubber boat that was used extensively in the evacuation of residents in the flash floods in southern Palawan last year.
In the geohazard maps prepared by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, floods, erosion and landslides are identified as possible hazards that will affect the province.
In cooperation and participation of the Philippine National Red Cross, employees of the provincial government participated in the bloodletting on Monday as part of the PDRRMC’s activities for the month.
