LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, May 14 (PIA) -- The fourth and final batch of training for all local government unit (LGU) marriage counselors was held Thursday and Friday at the Capitol Resort Hotel here.

Population Program Officer Alex Sevilla, Jr., program coordinator, said that the training was conducted in response to the joint Memorandum Circular No. 1 series of 2010 of the provincial social welfare and development office (PSWDO) and the population office which sought to organize, strengthen and capacitate all LGU pre-marriage counselors throughout the province into one solid team.

The training, which started August last year, covering all 48 towns including four cities in Pangasinan, aimed to create a more comprehensive, structured approach in strengthening marriages.

“At the end of the training, we expect for a more efficient and effective management of the government’s program through the provision of technical assistance and know-how handed down to these government workers by marriage experts coming from the region,” Sevilla said.

Sevilla added that “quality skill-based pre-marital education experience” given by marriage counselors is considered as a key factor in preventing marriage separation.

“Magandang training po ito para sa mga LGU-based counselor natin para magampanan nila ang kanilang tungkulin alinsunod sa vision ng national government na higit na pagandahin ang pre-marriage counseling project,” he said.

Facilitators of the two-day training were from the regional population office based in La Union led by Planning Officer Maribel Joven and Information Officer Vicky dela Torre.

Outputs of the training were consolidated for submission to the national office for further assessment. (JCR/DOS-PIA 1 Pangasinan/PIO)
