Alcala distributes P42M worth of farm machineries

PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan, Jan. 17 (PIA) -- Agriculture Secretary Proceso J. Alcala distributed a total of P42 million worth of farm machineries and agricultural goods in last night’s Farmer’s Forum held at the Aborlan municipal gymnasium.

 

With the aim of enhancing farm and livestock production and achieving rice and food sufficiency for the country, the agriculture department distributed farming equipments such as dryers, tractors, threshers, knapsack sprayers, greenhouses, draft animals, cashew shelling machines and planting materials. Such items were distributed to farmers association and local government units.

 

There were two agri-based cooperatives who received P3 million worth of grant each for the village-type corn post-harvest processing centers to be located in the towns of Narra and Sofronio Española.

 

The lone individual recipient was Mrs. Virginia Dureza of Brooke’s Point town who received a wood vinegar chamber and hand tractor worth P65,500. Dureza is a national runner-up in the Search for Outstanding Rural Woman of the Department of Agriculture (DA).

 

Alcala is in Palawan to inaugurate the Iwahig-Balsahan dam gate in Puerto Princesa City and to launch the construction of Ibato-Iraan Small Reservoir Irrigation Project of the National Irrigation Administration.

 

Today, he will inaugurate aquaculture projects of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources at the Sta. Lucia Environmental Estate in this city. (LBR/VSM/PIA-Palawan)
