BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, June 3 (PIA) -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) here recently launched the “Bike Patrol” project, which aims to improve the efficiency and effectivity of their anti-crime efforts.

Police Senior Supt. Valfrie Tabian, police provincial director, said the “Bike Patrol” project launch started with a bike run from this town to Solano to draw support and awareness from the public.

“This project is not new because it has been implemented before. This is being revived because of its effectivity and cost-efficiency as a strategy in going after criminal elements victimizing our people,” Tabian said.

The PNP, he said will be saving much on their expenses because of the absence of fuel while they can maximize police visibility in public places and other strategic areas prone to criminal activities.

Tabian said the “Bike Patrol” project, which is also environment-friendly, was supported by the municipal mayors in the province through the donation of the needed bikes by the policemen.

“We are very thankful for the support of our local officials for without them, it will be very difficult to pursue this because it entails funding,” he said.

Board member Epifanio Galima, chair of the provincial board’s committee on peace and order said the implementation of the “Bike Patrol” project will let the PNP accumulate huge savings.

He added that through the accumulated savings, the PNP can also augment its intelligence funds to strengthen their intelligence gathering efforts.

“With the project’s benefits to intelligence gathering, we can possibly prevent more crimes in the province,” he said. (TCB/BME-PIA2 Nueva Vizcaya)
