P3 million worth of illegally-cut logs confiscated in 2011 – Gov Dy
ILAGAN CITY, Isabela, Sept. 2 (PIA) -- More than P 3 million worth of illegally- cut logs were confiscated by the Isabela Environment Protection Task Force (IEPTF) in 2011 said Governor Faustino G. Dy III during his 2012 State of the Province Address (SOPA).
He said the provincial government has lodged 17 complaints against illegal loggers and will continue to do so to protect and preserve the remaining natural resources of Isabela.
On reforestation program, Dy said the provincial government is continuously supporting the seedling propagation of local government units to include bamboo seedling for its reforestation program.
He said the provincial government will continue to support the greening program of the national government through the conduct of series of reforestation activities in the province for its 4,000 hectares of target reforestation area.
Dy said the province’s environment office reported that to prevent erosion of land in identified areas, thousands of bamboo seedlings were planted at creeks prone to erosion.
Forest and fruit bearing tree seedlings were also planted in different tree planting sites of Isabela.
Dy also reaffirmed his No coal mining policy as the provincial government has reconstituted the provincial mining board to oversee and monitor the province’s no coal mining campaign. (PIA- Isabela)
