Over 400 drug suspects fall in PDEA 1 operations in 2011

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union, March 27 (PIA) -- Operations conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Region 1 resulted in the reduction of drug supply in the region, according to the PDEA 1 Public Relations Office Chief Bismarck Bengwayan.

The agency conducted a total of 486 operations which led to the arrest of 394 illegal drug suspects and neutralization of 21 watch listed drug personalities.

Bengwayan said that PDEA 1 in cooperation with the Philippine National Police Regional Office 1 and other local law enforcement units (LEUs) in their Area of Responsibility have doubled their efforts in illegal drug supply reduction in Ilocos Region.

PDEA1 launched wide scale operations involving joint elements of all the LEUs of region 1.

These are the Oplan Farmville 3, which targeted the Golden Green Triangle in Marijuana cultivation; Oplan Avatar 2 targeting the drug hotspot in Dagupan City, Pangasinan resulting in the neutralization of the Basilan Drug Group; Oplan Barbasan that led to the consfiscation of 100 marijuana bricks; Oplan Basilan – targeted the tiangge or drug hotspot in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan; Oplan Bonsai which neutralized the top priority target for the province of Pangasinan; Oplan BADS – led to the arrest of the top priority target for the Province of La Union and several other operations leading to the neutralization of high value targets.

For 2012, Bengwayan also reported that they have undertook 47 drug operations for the month of January which led to the arrest of 50 drug personalities and 57 operations for February that resulted to the arrest of 47 drug suspects. (ANL/MPA-PIA 1 La Union)
