TABUK CITY, Kalinga, May 29 (PIA) -- With the opening of classes next week, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Kalinga is urging employers to facilitate the payment of their 60 percent counterpart for the Special Employment Program for Student (SPES) beneficiaries in the province to speed up the release of DOLE’s 40 percent share.

DOLE Kalinga Chief Dr. Avelina Manganip, in an interview, related that processing of DOLE payment per province is done simultaneously on a first come, first serve basis so any delay by even a single employer could result to the late check release for the entire province.

According to Manganip, DOLE-CAR Director Henry John S. Jalbuena is urging the submission of all requirements from all the seven provinces in the Cordillera immediately after the last day of the summer job to speed up the payment processing. The money will be used by these students for their tuition and other necessities.

“The Director wants that as much as possible record processing and payment delays should be avoided for the program to be able to realize its purpose of helping the poor but deserving students by providing them with a short term but gainful employment,” she said.

Students are likewise encouraged to process the needed documents like the proof of enrollment and other requirements to facilitate the processing of their payroll.

Each hired students from the province for this summer, she said, were employed for at least 20 days.

Various employers including the different local government units she said committed 752 pledges for the summer job that ended last Monday, May 28.

The SPES is a part of the KABATAAN 2000 program and mandated under Republic Act No. 7323 to grant poor but deserving students gainful employment during the summer and Christmas breaks. (JDP/GGD - PIA CAR, Kalinga)
