TABUK CITY, Kalinga, May 4 (PIA) -- The provincial federation of senior citizens is validating the master list of members to clear its records for 2012.

Federation President Prescilla Daligdig said the move followed after the National Federation of Senior Citizens deputized provincial organizations to check and update master lists of members to facilitate release of benefits.

Accordingly, the need to regularly update member’s master list came up when it was found out during the distribution of social pension benefits that the list still included names of those who have died.

On the other hand, she said there are new members that are supposed to be included as qualified beneficiaries of the social pension.

In line with this, Daligdig, who is also the Cordillera regional chair of the federation of senior citizens, batted for the review of the list of social pension beneficiaries in the whole region.

She said there were reports that there were recipients who are not supposed to be included as beneficiaries because they are not indigent.

She stressed that social pension beneficiaries must be frail, sickly, have no any other source of income, and are not being supported by their families.

Under the Expanded Magna Carta of Senior Citizens, members get monthly pension of P500, released on a quarterly basis by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

In Kalinga, Daligdig expects the number of social pension beneficiaries to climb with the on-going validation of master list.(LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
