Wednesday 8th of February 2012TABUK CITY, Kalinga. Feb.8 (PIA) -- Secretary Jesse Robredo of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) called on all Cordillerans to unify their actions towards the achievement of regional autonomy and development.
In his keynote address during the opening of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) meet here yesterday, he said “you have common aspirations but if your approaches of achieving those desire remain divided, then it will be a futile exercise.”
“Your coming together in this regional sports fest is a manifestation of your strong resolve to be always one in any form of development,” said. “I know it is very hard to host such a big event but you are doing this to promote regional unity and as your contribution to nation building,” he added.
“That should be carried all through other efforts when you seek for greater avenues of spurring development in the region,” he said. Cordillera has many potential for progress which if fully developed will be your leverage in realizing higher autonomy, he said.
He challenged the competing athletes to do their best and excel for national as well as international sports competition. “You are the next leaders of this nation and representing your region in sports events is also a gauge of how far you have developed as a people,” Robredo said.
Robredo was guest speaker during the CARAA from February 7-11 participated by the Cordillera Administrative Region provinces of Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Mt. Province, Kalinga and the chartered city of Baguio. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR,Kalinga)
