Tabuk CENRO targets 1,325 ha for greening program
TABUK CITY, Kalinga, June 28 (PIA) -- The Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Tabuk City aims to cover 1,325 ha in its 2012 National Greening Program (NGP), almost triple the area it covered in 2011.
The CENRO increased its reforestation target area this year, seeing there is wider cooperation by involved stakeholders on the NGP in the province.
The NGP here is gaining headway as it tied-up with the Pumiyaan Program of the provincial government, the flagship socio-economic program of Gov. Jocel C. Baac, which involves regular tree planting in pilot barangays.
Also during national observances, government agencies, private groups, and schools join in the tree-planting project in various sites that help drumbeat the greening program here.
Eduard Lumas-e of the CENRO, who is the NGP coordinator of Tabuk, is optimistic to meet the 1,325 ha target this year with the involvement of other municipalities covered under Tabuk CENRO. The designated greening areas for Pasil are 115 ha, Lubuagan with 75 ha, Rizal with 260 ha, Tabuk with 510 ha, Tanudan with 60 ha, and Tinglayan with 305 ha.
Lumas-e also said that this year, the province shall produce tree seedlings for a ready supply, compared in 2011 when some seedlings had to be ordered from outside the province. He said 42,000 seedlings of fruit trees and other species of trees have been planted at the 480 hectares for the NGP area last year.
Under this, the CENRO spearheads the establishment of nurseries for seedling production and rallies the barangays to participate, Lumas-e elaborated. (JDP/LL- PIA CAR,Kalinga)
