Antique dengue victims now 208, with 1 dead

SAN JOSE, Antique, Aug 1 (PIA) -- The Antique Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) reported a total of 208 dengue cases with one death for the period January to July 27, 2012.

These cases were in the following towns: San Jose, 68 cases (with one death); Tibiao, 33; Anini-y, 23; Hamtic, 16; Belison, 14; and Sibalom, 10. The rest of the towns have cases lower than 10.

Irene Dulduco, Information Officer of IPHO, reported that incidence of dengue was highest in July cases with 81 cases, and in June with 66 cases.

Of the total number of cases, 81 percent are children aged 1-5 years old, disclosed Dulduco.

Three towns were also reported with clustering of cases where 3 or more dengue cases are reported with in three consecutive weeks. These are barangays Maybato, San Angel, Funda-Dalipe, San Fernando and Barangay 8 of the town of San Jose; Butu-an, Anini-y and Poblacion, Patnongon.

Thus, the IPHO urged the support of local officials and communities especially in areas that have cases in double digit to intensify their campaign on cleanliness of surroundings, unattended areas and indoor clean up.

"We really need the support of everyone to ward off the killer mosquitoes," Dulduco added.

Likewise, Dulduco reiterated the call for early medical attention or referral to health authorities when suspected victim has fever or rashes or observed to have any signs and symptoms of dengue. (JCM/PSM/PIA6 Antique
