Labor, income and expenditure surveys to cover 12 barangays
KALIBO, Aklan, July 25 (PIA6) -- Twelve barangays in Aklan had been selected by the National Statistics Office (NSO) as samples for two surveys the agency is currently conducting this month – labor force, family income and expenditures.
Selected from several municipalities in the province, these barangays, according to NSO-Aklan Provincial Statistics Officer Blas M. Solidum are Poblacion Altavas, Morales in Balete, Lapnag in Banga, Bay-ang, Mambuquiao and Mandong in Batan, Tigayon in Kalibo, Poblacion Madalag, Nagustan, Pinatuad and Solido in Nabas, Dumaguit in New Washington, Albasan and Badio in Numancia and Afga and Jawili in Tangalan.
Solidum said the Labor Force Survey (LFS) is a nationwide quarterly survey of households which aims to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population for the formulation of plans and policies affecting the labor market.
Data from this survey will be used as basis in creating and generating gainful employment and livelihood opportunities, reduction of unemployment and underemployment, and enhancement of a working person’s welfare.
The Family Income Expenditure Survey (FIES), on the other hand, is a nationwide survey of households in order to gather data on income distribution, levels of living and spending patters of Filipino families.
The data obtained from FIES will be used as basic source of information for the estimation of the household account in the System of National Accounts and balances; measurement of the Human Development Index, measurement of poverty, and measurement levels of living of different sections of the population and disparities in levels of living across geographical regions and socio-economic groups.
To ensure the successful conduct of the surveys, Solidum appealed to local government units and respondents to support and cooperate in the data-gathering by giving the needed information to data collectors.
The NSO has enlisted the assistance of 5 statistical researchers to conduct these house to house surveys which started July 9 and will end July 31.
All information furnished by the respondents to data collectors will be held “strictly confidential”, assured NSO, and will not be used for taxation, investigation or law enforcement purposes. (VGV NSO/PIA6 Aklan)
