KALIBO, Aklan, June 30 (PIA) -- The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has given scholarships to 65 Aklanon students who are children of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries.

The 4Ps scholars who have just graduated this year from high school, according to Cristina Tercena, Provincial Operations Officer, are from 11 municipalities of the province.

CHED gave six slots of scholarship per municipality, totaling 66 in all. However, one scholar was unable to take the entrance examinations for the scholarship on June 27 at the Daeangpan it mga Kababayen-an sa Aklan. Only 65 students will be assigned to various campuses of the Western Visayas State University in Iloilo on July 6.

CHED provides scholarship to the students as a way of complementing the 4Ps of the government.

Students will take courses such as Special Education, Agriculture and Information Technology.

The scholarship given to these students, Tercena said, is one of the government’s schemes of continuing its support to 4Ps beneficiaries which is hoped to be sustained not only through the convergence of government programs like 4Ps and Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Service (KALAHI-CIDSS) but also with the help of parents and local officials.

As pioneer scholars, these students will be monitored by the Department of Education (DepEd), according to Tercena. (JCM/VGV-PIA6 Aklan)
