KALIBO, Aklan, May 18 (PIA) -- Buying school supplies will be lighter and pocket-friendlier for parents, students and teachers with two “Diskwento” sale projects being readied by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in time for this school year opening.

The projects, according to DTI-Aklan, will come in the form of the “Balik-Eskwela Diskwento Sale” Project, slated from May 20 to 31, and the Roving “Diskwento” Sale Project, to be held on May 26, 2012 in Balete, Aklan.

The “Balik-Eskwela Diskwento” project, for this year, will involve offering by participating establishments discount on school supplies right in their establishments.

Participants of this scheme are local retailers of schools and office supplies in Kalibo.

The roving “Diskwento” Sale Project, on the other hand, which will be held in Balete town, will be gathering exhibitors in one roof where they will sell their merchandise like school supplies and other basic/prime commodities.

Venue of this roving sale project is the Mayor Teodoro F. Calizo Sr. Memorial Civic Center while the exhibitors will be manufacturers/distributors and local retailers of school supplies and other basic/prime commodities.

The Roving “Diskwento” Sale in Balete is timed on the market day of the municipality so more people will have the chance to buy school supplies at discounted prices.

“The main objective of these projects is to provide the general public, particularly students and parents better access and affordable prices of school supplies and other basic and prime commodities,” DTI-Aklan Provincial director Diosdado P. Cadena Jr. explained.

Besides the offer of discounted school supplies, the DTI also revealed that students of the Cinia Cervatos Training Center in Kalibo, an institution assisted by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) will also be joining the project in Balete by offering free pedicure, manicure and haircut to the buying public.

The Provincial Trade Hall here at the Provincial Capitol Grounds used to be the usual venue of the yearly “Balik-Eskwela Diskwento” project of the DTI here, before local retailers committed to offer discounts in their stores this year. (JCM/VGV-PIA6 Aklan)
