Public, private participation in October Stat Month urged
ILOILO CITY, Sept 18 (PIA) -- The National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) has issued a directive enjoining all government agencies, local government units, academic institutions and the private sector to actively participate in and support the celebration of the 23rd National Statistics Month (NSM) this October.
Memorandum Circular No. 01-12 was issued by National Economic and Development Authority Secretary (NEDA) and NSCB Chairman Arsenio Balisacan on June 28 in line with the annual celebration, which is in pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 674 issued by President Corazon Aquino on September 20, 1990, NSCB-6 Officer-in-Charge Nelida Losare said.
This year, the celebration focuses on the theme, “Monitoring Progress on Decent Work Through Statistics: Pathway to Inclusive Growth.”
In Western Visayas, Losare said, the Regional Statistical Coordination Committee is set to meet and finalize activities to be undertaken during the month-long celebration on September 25.
The Regional Statistical Coordination Committees, which is under the Regional Development Council, is tasked as the coordination bodies for all NSM activities in the region with NEDA-6 Director Ro-Ann Bacal as chairman.
Among the proposed activities this year are the Statistical Quiz for secondary students, Statistical Analysis for Tertiary level, Statistical Exhibit, Statistical Bulletin Board, Statistical Training, Statistical Fora and Statistical Congress.
The different provinces in the region have also prepared their own activities and programs to mark the celebration in their respective areas.
Balisacan also encouraged participating agencies to display NSM streamers during the celebration following the prescribed format and likewise, to disseminate calendar of activities, posters and other promotional materials to help ensure that the objectives of the event are attained.
The yearly observance aims to promote, enhance and instill nationwide awareness and appreciation of the importance and value of statistics to the different sectors of society; and to elicit the cooperation and support of the general public in upgrading the quality and standards of statistics in the country.
