Bloodletting set on July 15 at Malcolm Square
BAGUIO CITY.July 14 (PIA) -- A blood donation activity dubbed “Tambalang Sagip Buhay Karamay Habang Buhay Part V" will be conducted at the city’s Malcolm Square on Sunday, July 15.
Organized by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) - Baguio, E Carta Media Production and Promotions, Z Radio and other agencies, the tambalang sagip buhay project is now on its fifth staging.
According to Eddie Carta, a board member of the PRC-Baguio Chapter, they have scheduled the bloodletting activity, which is part of their social responsibility, to coincide with the 25th Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) foundation day celebration with the theme “Looking Back with Pride, Moving On with Hope."
“Blood is life that is why we are asking all able-bodied people to come and donate blood. Who knows, the life you’re saving might be a friend or a relative of yours," Carta said.
“We saw the success and the eagerness of the people to help by donating blood in the past Tambalang Sagip Buhay. We hope we have more blood donors, volunteers and sponsors to support this worthy cause. This is our commitment and our social responsibility,” added Carta.
Annie Tamayo, PRC-Baguio administrator, said the donated blood will help a lot of patients who need blood. She called the support of everyone to this endeavor.
She again clarified that PRC is not selling blood. What is being charged, she said, is the processing and laboratory fee in screening the blood.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH) Cordillera has also been emphasizing the need for blood by severe dengue patients while reiterating the call to the public to observe cleanliness in the surroundings.
“Dengue cases are expected to increase because of the rainy season. We can prevent cases if we maintain a clean environment and by destroying all possible Aedes Aegypti mosquito breeding sites,” Cordillera Health Director Judith Alliaga said.
PRC echoed the DOH’s call for a clean environment to prevent the further rise of dengue cases. (JDP/JBZ- PIA CAR)
