ILOILO CITY, Aug 10 (PIA6) – The town of Ajuy, 74 kilometers north of Iloilo City, now enjoys basic infrastructure and social services worth nearly P88 million.

The small community projects were constructed under the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS), covering 87 functional infrastructure, costing P87,965,550.

KALAHI-CIDSS Project Officer Maricar Calubiran said 73 percent or P64,720,000 came from KALAHI-CIDSS grant, while the remaining 27 percent or P23,245550 came from the local government units from the provincial to the municipal and barangay levels counterpart.

Ajuy, a second class municipality, has 34 barangays, three of which are island barangays, and only two of which are not covered by the project.

A DSWD report as of June 2012 said 55 of the completed and functional sub-projects were social services facilities such as day care centers, health stations and school buildings, as well as the provision of utilities to include electrification and water systems comprising 63 percent, as identified most by the people.

The common projects implemented in Ajuy are basic access infrastructure, with 16 projects, such as roads and foot trail/bridges, comprising about 18 percent of the total projects.

On the other hand, the environmental protection and conservation projects such as river dredging and construction of drainage systems, seawalls, ditch canals and reinforced pipe culverts, comprising 16 percent, are the third most prioritized sub-projects.

The remaining three percent of the sub-projects include construction of community production, economic support and common service facilities such as pre-post and post-production facilities.

DSWD said Ajuy’s main source of livelihood are farming and fishing.

Meanwhile, three of the town’s barangays got biggest chunks for their sub-projects.

In Bgy. San Antonio, a health station, a three-classroom school building and another two-classroom building were constructed in the amount of P5,659,424.

In Bgy. Pedaca, construction of a health station and a road improvement project amounting to P1,643,480 were undertaken.

Calubiran said over the amount and the projects realized, was the enabling change in attitude of the people to identify for themselves the projects they needed most, and the capability to handle, manage and use their funds efficiently and effectively. (JCM/ESS/PIA-Iloilo)
