Sorsogon Sangguniang Panlungsod establishes legislative tracking and ordinance codifiction

SORSOGON CITY, Feb. 8 (PIA) -- Ordinances made in the municipalities of Sorsogon and Bulan before these were merged to become a city may now be dated and irrelevant to the times. There is therefore a need to assess these ordinances to establish a legislative tracking and ordinance codification as an effective executive-legislatve synergy complementation to propel the development of the city of sorsogon said Sorsogon City Vice Mayor Robert Lee Rodrigueza

Rodrigueza explained that ordinances approved before the creation of the city has to be reviewed and analyzed if these need to be amended or are still effective since a lot of new policies have now been issued to fit the changing times.

Example of these new policies are the implementation of projects on climate change adaptation and mitigation, housing policies that should conform with disaster risk reduction implementation, the use of the 10 percent calamity fund which now is more focused on disaster risk reduction management, and a lot more that really needs a thorough assessment and re issuance as new improved ordinance made in keeping with the times.

He also explained that ordinances along the transformation of the city as an economic and tourism hub should also be provided more concern as the city of Sorsogon is a new evolving city with support facilities like the material recovery facilities, the need to have a cultural center, environmental facilities, and other infrustructure development; all these should have a legislative support that should conform with national policies.

Rodrigueza also said that the comprehensive land use plan of the city should have more enhanced ordinances so that infrastructure development will promote to total human development.

“We are backtracking records of ordinances made so that these will evolve into better ordinances fit for implementation so that cohesive collaboration within the executive and the legislative be a unifying service to the people of Sorsogon City. This is where the executive and the legislative should be more collegial and unified specifically in terms of a developmental vision”, he said. (MAL/IAG, PIA Sorsogon)
