PNoy leads opening of new by-pass road in Candelaria
CANDELARIA, Quezon, Sept 18 (PIA) -- President Aquino yesterday led the ceremonial drive-through of the newly constructed by-pass road project at Bucal Sur in this town.
In his message to more than 200 residents of Quezon composed of government officials, personnel and local media practitioners, President Aquino said the by-pass road project will ease traffic congestion along the Maharlika Highway in the second district of Quezon. With him were Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson and incoming Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas.
The DPWH Quezon 2nd engineering district said the project will enhance the tourism industry and promote economic development in the province and other nearby areas. The project will also provide faster, safer and shorter travel time from Manila to Region 5.
The project which was started in 2008 and completed in 2012 is a 7.52 km long two-lane concrete road with three bridges and a box culvert on a 20-meter wide road right of way. It is parallel to the Pan Philippine Highway of about 1.50 km from the farthest point. The proposed alignment traverses agricultural lands, coconut plantations and crosses the Philippine National Railway in Barangay Mangilag Sur in this town.
The by-pass road is a project of Rep. Irvin Alcala and implemented by DPWH Quezon 2nd engineering district. The awarding of the Seal of good housekeeping for barangay governance is also a project of Rep. Alcala.
Also present during the ceremonial drive through were local officials and personnel of the Candelaria local government headed by Mayor Ferdinand Maliwanag.
After the ceremonial drive through, the president proceeded to Manuel S. Enverga University Foundation, Lucena City for the awarding of the Seal of good housekeeping for barangay governance and oath-taking of the liberal party in Quezon. (NC/RMO, PIA- Quezon)
