DTI to hold multi-sectoral Calabarzon consumer assembly
LUCENA CITY, Quezon, Aug 8 (PIA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Quezon provincial office along with Consumernet member agencies, business sector representatives, local government units (LGU), youth representatives, and local media/ academe of Quezon province and other provinces in Region 4A are scheduled to attend the upcoming multi-sectoral Calabarzon consumer assembly on August 17. .
DTI Quezon provincial director Marcelina S. Alcantara said the consumer assembly, to be held in at Sol Y Viento resort, Calamba City, Laguna aims to solicit regional cooperation/support to potential projects/ programs that may address the challenges facing Filipino consumers.
Alcantara also said this is also a prelude to the National Consumer Assembly set for October 2012 in celebration of consumer protection month.
Topics to be tackled includes: strengthening the consumer protection and education programs in the Philippines; consumer protection at the local level: the CCPC experience in San Pablo City; ensuring that the customer is king/queen: the case of consumer education and protection in malls; consumer education - from the classroom to the field: UPLB experience and using the power of media to consumer education and protection.
Other topics for discussion are: ensuring quality products and services at the manufacturing or food retailing sector; regional issues and proposed solutions- result of provincial consultations; consumer organizations in the region: best practices and challenges.
There will be an open forum in the morning while sectoral workshop in the afternoon to make or formulate sectoral projects or programs for consumer education and protection. (RMO-PIA 4A, Quezon)
