BSP holds financial education expos in Quezon

LUCENA CITY, Quezon, Aug 7 (PIA) -- The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has conducted financial education expos for professionals, employees and students in Quezon.

More than 200 employees from public and private offices of Quezon province attended the financial education expos by the BSP through its financial consumer affairs group of the supervision and examination sector at the King Function Hall, Quezon Premiere Hotel, national highway, barangay Ibabang Dupay this city on August 2.

BSP said the advocacy on financial education and consumer protection is principally anchored on the belief that the efforts of the BSP to promote financial stability and strengthen the financial system will have a better chance of succeeding if they go hand in hand with efforts to educate the public.

Financial consumer affairs group carries the theme, “Financial education: Building block for a stronger economy.”

The BSP also conducted mini-sessions in learning booths were BSP employees discussed topics such as the Philippine financial system, consumer protection, personal finance, currency concerns and financial products.

Sessions aim to obtain a basic understanding about the Philippine financial system, be familiar with the BSP’s financial education and consumer protection initiatives and consumer assistance mechanism, be aware of the basics of saving, investing and borrowing, explain and demonstrate the proper handling of physical money and to be aware of the different financial products available in the financial market.

The personal finance booth highlights the benefits of saving early, financial planning for life cycle events, power of compounding the interest and basic investing concepts while the financial products booth gives an overview of the different financial instruments consumers may choose from based on their risk appetite and objective.

The learning booths also displayed information materials and interactive activities that will enhance the learning experience of the participants.
