CARMONA, Cavite, July 12 (PIA) -- To prevent a dengue outbreak in the municipality, the local government unit (LGU) is educating and tapping schoolchildren as warriors against the disease-carrying mosquitoes. They are dubbed "Dengue Busters."

Last month, Dr. Homer Aguinaldo, MHO chief reactivated the Carmona Little Dengue Brigade (CLGB) in 13 public and private schools in the municipality due to the alarming rise in dengue cases in the country.

The brigade aims to equip the dengue-vulnerable age group against dengue with awareness about its way of transmission, prevention, and control.

Seventy-five elementary students from the said public and private schools composed of grades 5 and 6 were sworn in by Mayor Dahlia Loyola as Dengue Busters. These students pledged their commitment as dengue advocates in their respective schools.

The students were taught about dengue prevention and control. They have to report any suspected case to the main health office and they will be provided with uniform shirts and caps to distinguish them from other pupils.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Health Office (MHO), here in partnership with SC Johnson Philippines, distributed 2,000 packs of Off! lotion to 15 public and private elementary schools as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to the community and help control the spread of dengue.(CPG/RBF-PIA 4A, Cavite/Carmona PIO)
