DOLE’s K-ITO project in Batangas, benifits 183 individuals
LIPA CITY, Batangas, Aug 6 (PIA) -- One hundred eighty three residents from the municipalities of Balayan and Lemery were recipients of the basic computer literacy sessions under the Kabataan Information Technology Opportunities (K-ITO) project of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-Batangas.
Former Overseas Filipino Workers, out-of-school youths, barangay health workers, tricycle drivers, teachers without computer knowledge and even senior citizens underwent the computer literacy with 15 K-ITO project mentors from Batangas State University (BSU) conducting the training.
K-ITO is an earning and learning project of DOLE. Under the program, IT-literate unemployed youth are tapped and mobilized as mentors in computer literacy sessions in exchange for a modest stipend of P25 per hour. BSU has been a partner of the DOLE since its first implementation in 2010 in Batangas.
Each learner is required to complete a 22-hour four-module course that include familiarizing with the computer hardware, operating the computer, operating word processing application using MS Word and using the Internet for searching and communication.
The fourth training session held in Batangas, bringing the number of graduates to a total of 620 individuals from communities hardly reached by free computer tutorials. (Guido Recio, DOLE-Batangas/CPG-PIA4A)
