Environment offficer implements “A tree for every Calambeno” program

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, July 1 (PIA) --The city government of Calamba through the city environment and natural resources office (CENRO) is currently implementing a year-long environmental activity dubbed, “A tree for every Calambeno.”

According to CENR officer Loida Humarang, since January this year, their office has distributed 700 tree seedlings, 200 are fruit-bearing.

On June 26, a tree-planting activity was held at the Plaza where employees from the city offices of CENRO, tourism, engineering, agriculture, public order and safety, Philippine National Police (PNP), the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) participated in the activity.

The participants, according to officer-in-charge Division Chief Emilita S. Reyes of CENRO, planted about 50 tree saplings of balitbitan, caballero, and mangium.

“This is our way to show that we can still do it - love the environment and by joining forces,” Reyes said.

This activity is in line with the government’s National Greening Program (NGP) espoused by President Aquino. The program aims to plant 1.5 billion trees covering about 1.5 million hectares for a period of six years from 2011 to 2016 in public domain. (Grace Bondad-Nicolas, PIA 4A)
