BAGUIO CITY, March 2 (PIA) -- Former Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Gulliermina “Mina” Gabor said that “culture is sustainable tourism,” in her keynote address during the 4th National Tourism Convention, which opened today at the multi-purpose hall of Baguio Country Club.

More than 600 officials and students of tourism-related educational institutions from all over the country will participate in this event. “Through our country’s rich and diversified culture, we can showcase education, health and wellness, conservation (of the environment, indigenous animal species and our rich fauna and flora), community development, people tourism, peace, and business, among others,” Gabor said.

“We just have to be creative and innovative as culture is all around as. We are awash with culture that we can share with the rest of the world”, Gabor added.
The number one example of our culture is “Bayanihan.” “Working together, helping each other,” she said.

She also disclosed that it is a global vision for 2014 to 2024 to be a “Decade of Action for Sustainable Tourism.”
