DOST invites Central Luzon residents to apply for MS and PhD scholarships

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, March 14 (PIA) -- Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office 3 continues to invite Central Luzon residents who wish to pursue a master’s or doctorate degree in science and technology to apply for the scholarships given by the Science Education Institute (SEI).

 

DOST Regional information officer Marites Batac said, “The Accelerated Science and Technology Human Resource Development Program scholarships of SEI is open to all Filipino citizens who are holders of a bachelor’s degree (for master’s applicants) or master’s degree (for doctorate applicants), not more than 45 years at the time of application and is physically and mentally fit to undergo a rigorous graduate school life in any of the following priority fields of study: Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources; Biological Sciences; Biotechnology; Chemical Sciences; Earth, Atmospheric and Space Sciences; Environmental Sciences; Fisheries and Marine Science; Information and Communication Technology; Materials Science and Nanotechnology; Pure and Applied Mathematics; Health and Pharmaceutical Sciences; and Pure and Applied Physics.”

 

Batac added, “Applicants must have passed the admission exams and/or interviews of any of the National Science Consortium (NSC) member-universities that recognize such grant.”

 

The ten members of NSC are Ateneo De Manila University; Central Luzon State University; De La Salle University; Mindanao State University- Iligan Institute of Technology; University of Santo Tomas; Visayas State University and the Diliman, Los Baños, Manila and Visayas campuses of the University of the Philippines.

 

Among the privileges DOST-SEI post grad scholars enjoy include tuition and other school fees subsidy; P15,000 (for master’s) and P23,000 (for doctorate) monthly stipend; P7,500 annual book allowance; P10,000 transportation allowance (for those studying outside their place of permanent residence); group insurance; and P30,000 thesis (for master’s) and P60,000 dissertation (for doctorate) allowance.

 

Batac likewise said “SEI also offers thesis/dissertation-only scholarships for those who are currently enrolled and set to finish their degrees.”

 

Interested and qualified Central Luzon residents are advised to submit the following to the nearest DOST office or to the concerned NSC member on or before April 16 (for first semester) and September 3 (for second semester): fully accomplished information sheet; photocopy of birth certificate; certified true copy of the official transcript of records; endorsement from two former professors in college; if employed, recommendation from the head of agency/company and permission to take a leave of absence while on scholarship; medical certificate; valid NBI clearance; one passport size ID picture; and letter of admission which include the evaluation sheet and program of study.
