Mariveles holds classes for out-of-school youth, adult learners
MARIVELES, Bataan, July 10 (PIA) -- Sixteen barangays in Mariveles town in Bataan currently conduct classes for the out-of-school youth and adult learners.
The Alternative Learning System (ALS) in Mariveles provides educational opportunities to those living in remote, mountain barangays.
District ALS Coordinator Myra Morilla said of the 386 enrollees last year, 98 of them have passed the Accreditation and Equivalency Test. Grade school drop-outs may enter high school if they pass the test while those who have not completed high school may be promoted to college if they pass this test.
Of these passers, 17 belong to the 12 to 15 years old age bracket while 79 are from ages 16 to 18. This shows that the passers are older than that of the normal age for high school.
The enrollment per barangay this year is as follows: Camaya-18; Poblacion-19; San Isidro-12, Balon Anito-63; Ipag-52; Malaya-9; Mt. View-66; AlasAsin-2; Sisiman-13; Baseco-84; Batangas Dos-45; Cabcaben-56; Maligaya-36; Alion-61; Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-10; and Biaan-26.
Mariveles Mayor Jesse Concepcion and the Sangguniang Bayan allotted P500,000 annually for the ALS program. This amount is utilized for the purchase of learning modules, educational equipment and other expenses of mobile teachers. (CLJD/RGSD-PIA3)
