DOLE-3 conducts entrepreneurial dev’t training to informal workers

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, May 27 (PIA) -- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Central Luzon recently hosted a day of development training exclusive for Workers in Informal Sector (WIS), recognizing their huge contribution towards economic development.

The Entrepreneurship Development Training (EDT), held at the Benigno Hall, Capitol Compound, was anchored on the theme, “Jobs and Social Protection for All: Making the President’s Social Contract with the Filipino People Work for the Workers in the Informal Economy,” was jointly organized by DOLE-3, provincial government of Pampanga through its Public Employment Service (PESO), and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

DOLE regional director Raymundo G. Agravante reported that 216 officers and members of nine workers’ association in Pampanga, who are all beneficiaries of DOLE’s various livelihood programs, which include “Negosyo King Panyulong Program” of the Pampanga provincial government, participated in said development training.

The DOLE invited other government agencies during the training to provide comprehensive livelihood programs and assistance in order for the beneficiaries to further develop their livelihood projects and in turn, provide a more decent living for their families.

Agravante said that the Social Security System and PhilHealth were present to lobby their programs and provide assistance in enrolling the participants on their respective social protection programs.

Agravante lauded the participants for their hard work which helped the region boost economic growth through the various livelihood projects they have ventured in, which turned into successful businesses benefiting their families and communities.

“We hope that you continue to develop your livelihood projects even more, so we can altogether attain our dream of progress of all Filipino workers,” he said.

Beneficiaries, meanwhile, expressed gratitude to DOLE for the constant support it has provided them.

“Because of the livelihood assistance given by DOLE and with the help of other government agencies, through our peanut butter livelihood project, my four children have earned their college degrees. One is an engineer, one is an HR practitioner, and the two others are Marketing graduates,” said Vilma Rodriguez, President of the Mother’s Club of San Isidro, Magalang, Pampanga.
