BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, July 6 (PIA) -- The Bureau of Mines and GeoSciences (MGB) in the region has lauded a mining firm here for its outstanding health, safety and environmental programs.

The MGB, in its award showed the Didipio Project in Nueva Vizcaya for its exceptional performance on health and safety programs, environmental and social commitments during the Department of Environment and Natural Resources(DENR) Region 02 - ‘Environment Month’ culminating program in Tuguegarao City.

OceanaGold (Philippines), Inc. received the plaque of appreciation from MGB Regional Director Mario Ancheta in recognition of the company’s significant accomplishments.

“OGPI is doing excellently in the monitoring and implementation of their various programs and initiatives taken beyond those required by laws, regulations and permits to minimize their impact within their mining operation. Other mining companies in the area should take OceanaGold as their model being the first mining company in the region granted with Environmental Compliance Certificate,” Ancheta said.

The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) in region 2 also commended OGPI last month for “incorporating and observing a human rights perspective in the conduct of its business affairs and for giving due consideration to cultural rights within its mining operations in Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino.

Chito Gozar, senior vice-president for communications and external affairs said, "the recognition is a reflection of our employees’ commitment and dedication in the principles of sustainable development – protects and supports social integrity, environmental biodiversity and equitable economic development. We will continue to work hard to produce these results for the people, community and country."

He added that OceanaGold has already been implementing various projects for the community including reforestation and environmental programs, medical missions and scholarship programs, which are all in line with its goal of sustainable growth and development. (TCB/BME-PIA 2 Nueva Vizcaya)
