28 Nueva Vizcaya families get new houses from TV network
DUPAX DEL NORTE, Nueva Vizcaya, June 14 (PIA) -- A total of 28 homeless families in this town yesterday received newly-constructed houses donated by TV 5 Network in barangay Macabenga here.
The bungalow-type fully-painted housing units, complete with tiled floor, beds, comfort room, dining tables, and chairs and other facilities were funded under the TV 5 network’s Extreme Home Makeover project, hosted by Paulo Bediones.
“This is a true sign of independence because our homeless constituents are now free from the shackles of poverty and misery. We are very grateful with this project and those who made this a reality,” said Mayor Clarita Egmin-Epi.
The housing project, constructed on top of a hill, was supported by the local government unit and the Gawad Kalinga (GK) in the province in coordination with civic organizations.
According to vice mayor Victoriano Prado, the LGU provided the lot and the labor for its preparation as a housing project site.
He said the housing project was also powered by electricity and will be provided by potable water coming from a reservoir.
“Actually, the lot was donated to us by Representative Carlos Padilla but we offered it for such purpose to provide the site for this noble project,” Prado said.
He said the construction of the housing project was started four months ago with the help of volunteers from various sectors of the LGU and the whole province.
Prado said the proposed beneficiaries were more than 40 but it was trimmed down to 28 after an evaluation and assessment of their economic status.
“In fact, TV 5 staff even visited the beneficiaries who were staying in the mountains. Some of these beneficiaries were calssified as poorest of the poor and victims of previous disasters and calamities due to typhoons that struck the province,” Prado said. (BME-PIA 2, Nueva Vizcaya)
