Newly constructed Catholic church named after St Pedro Calungsod

SAN ISIDRO, Isabela, Oct 23 (PIA) – After the canonization of blessed Pedro Calungsod last Sunday, a newly constructed Catholic church at Barangay Cebu, San Isidro has been named after the saint by the Diocese of Ilagan.

Parishioners attended the mass celebrated last Sunday in the first Catholic church named after the recently canonized Filipino saint.

Cecilia Viray, a local Catholic devotee, said she is glad that the church in her town was named after the second Filipino saint, and is proud that another Filipino was recognized by the Catholic hierarchy.

“We cannot forget this day, as it is just a day after canonization of Saint Pedro Calungsod, and our newly-built church was named after him," Viray said.

Found inside the church is the statue of Saint Pedro Calungsod.

Parish priest Fr. Darwin Mamauag, urged parishioners, particularly the youth, to emulate what Calungsod did to serve the Lord.

Mamauag said that everyone can become servant of the Lord like Calungsod, when they help the church in spreading the word of God.

The Saint Pedro Calungsod Church is the first Catholic church in Cagayan Valley named after Calungsod. (PIA- Isabela)*
