CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela, July 11 (PIA) -- The city nutrition office is distributing free vegetable seeds to schoolchildren in the city, to improve the nutritional status of all schoolchildren in the city.

Beatriz Pawan, nutrition officer III, said that squash, eggplant, pepper, and tomato seeds, among others, were given.

Pawan said the nutrition office will be distributing more than 1,000 packs of vegetables seeds to schoolchildren identified as malnourished to attain the normal nutritional status.

She said the program aims to inculcate in children the value of eating nutritious foods like vegetables to remain healthy, strong, and smart. This will also encourage parents to plant vegetables in their backyards needed for the day-to-day nutrition of the family.

Pawan said the city nutrition office will monitor the backyard gardens of children particularly that of malnourished children.

The nutrition office continuously distributes vegetable seeds by visiting all schools in its 65 barangays. (PIA 2, Isabela)
