NSO to conduct agri, fisheries census

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Sept 22 (PIA) -- The National Statistics Office (NSO)-2 will conduct a census of agriculture and fisheries (CAF) 2012 on February to March next year.

Regional Director Magdalena Bautista, officer-in-charge, said the census aims to collect and compile basic information and determine structural characteristics of agriculture and fishery sectors in the country.

“The data collected will constitute the bases from which our policy makers and planners will evolve plans for the country’s development”, Bautista said.

The survey will also provide the sampling frame for the conduct of census supplementary modules on irrigation and cropping pattern, livestock and poultry, aquaculture and fisheries, and other statistical undertakings for national and subnational development planning, as well as to provide data on the agricultural and fisheries related facilities.

Cherry Grace Agustin, provincial statistics officer, said though they were already ordered to prepare for the said census, it is not yet definite if it will be conducted as a whole or they will implement random sampling, depending on the budget allocation.

She also stated that enumerators will be hired preferably from the barangays where the census are to be conducted to ensure they will gather accurate data as they are familiar with their place and the families that are engage into farming and fishing.

Agustin further urges families to be visited by the enumerators to give true and accurate information to the enumerators to attain the gal of the census to provide reliable data on agriculture and fisheries. (OTB-PIA-2)
