TUGUEGARAO CITY, Aug 4 (PIA) -- This city’s Pavvurulun Festival set on August 8 to 16 will be highlighting the Ibanag culture, tradition, delicacies and hospitality.

In the press conference held at PIA office, city Councilor Perla Tumaliuan said several activities are lined up to the week-long celebration to make the city’s fiesta in real festive mood to entertain visitors from others towns, regions and even abroad who are expected to grace the occasion.

Part of the festival are the competitions on street dancing, drum and lyre, bicycle race, boat racing or bangkarera, "nuang" and "kabayu" karera or carabao and horse racing, piglet catching and the famous pansit festival.

Councilor Engelbert Caronan said the activities include a trade fair exhibit, which will highlight the local native food products, delicacies, furniture, decors and others not only from the city but also from other towns and cities in Region 2.

A cooking contest will be held on native "igado," pure pig meat menu, "sinanta" or noodle soup and "pinakufu," a sweet delicacy, all of Ibanag original menu, during the fiesta.

“It’s high time for us to promote our rich Ibanag culture as well as showcase our hospitality as they are our pride as the premier Ibanag city in the Philippines,” Caronan said.

The most awaited and the highlight of the city’s festival, councilor Ronald Ortiz said, is the competition on pancit eating, as Tuguegarao City is known of its "pansit batil-patung" noodles, with a "sunny side-up" egg on top and hot soup.

Pavvurulun is an Ibanag term that means unity. The Ibanag's motto is “In Unity there is Progress.” The city officials encourage everyone, Tuguegaraoeno or visitors, to be part of the festival.

Security, peace and order was also guaranteed by the said officials during the festival.

Caronan further added that though the local government used to declare the 16th as official non-working holiday, they will further announce later if this year’s fiesta day will also be declared non-working holiday in the city, as they will check the declaration from Malacanang. (OTB/PIA-2)
