DOH conducts search for best implementers of orally fit child program
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Aug 3 (PIA) -- The Department of Health is conducting a search for the best implementers of the orally fit child program implementers region-wide, to increase the level of toothbrushing habit among two- to six-year-old children.
Dr. Josefino Flores, dental program coordinator, said the orally fit child award aims to motivate and inspire the local government units (LGUs), non-government organizations, private sectors, public health dentists and other health workers to instill deeper involvement and encourage resourcefulness in the promotion of the orally fit activities.
He said the award system will recognize the exemplary and outstanding performance of the program implementers to reduce the incidence of early childhood caries based on the baseline data by five percent per year.
“This program also aims to institutionalize provision of basic and essential oral health packages at LGU level and to improve further the knowledge, attitude, behavior and skills of mother and child on best oral health practices,” Flores said.
The program, he specified, has two categories: the search for Orally Fit Day Care Center and the Orally Fit Community. The regional winners will be given plaques of appreciation and cash awards. Regional winners will also be endorsed for the national level.
In his report, Cagayan attained 86 percent orally fit children but other provinces posted very low percentages. (OTB/PIA-2)
