TUGUEGARAO CITY, June 25 (PIA) -- Cagayano artists have showcased their talents in artworks in the 4th Annual Indigenous Peoples Visual Art Exhibition at the St. Peter Cathedral Patio, spearheaded by the Provincial Government of Cagayan, through the Provincial Museum Office in partnership with the Kalinawa Art Foundation.

Nelson Orpilla, exhibit curator, said the artworks depict the Cagayano culture and tradition as well as life’s challenges, realities, and transformations.

The visual art exhibit is part of the 429th Aggao Nac Cagayan celebration which will run up to June 29, 2012.

Orpilla said more than a hundred artworks were grouped together to communicate the messages that the artists want to convey to the viewers as means of advocating culture preservation and human development.

“Some of the artists underwent formal arts trainings and some enhanced their skills in school arts formal studies. The IP artists here have really showcased their innate talents in arts which is their means to convey messages to the public,” Orpilla added.

On his part, City Vice Mayor Danilo Baccay lauded the local artists as he stressed that the visual art exhibit does not only discover and develop visual artists but also preserves the works and talents of the indigenous men and women for the appreciation of future generations.

“The artworks of our very own Cagayanos reflect the aspirations, the frustrations, the conditions, the visions of our artists which they convey as they showcase what they see in their real world,” Baccay said.

Baccay encouraged the public to visit the art exhibit and reflect on the messages that the artists want to convey through their fascinating master pieces. (TCM/OTB/PIA-2)
