BJMP stresses communities’ role in corrections administration
TUGUEGARAO CITY, June 8 (PIA) -- The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Region 2 has encouraged community participation towards effective corrections administration.
Jail Senior Inspector Juliet Miranda said the community, to include the different line agencies, have significant roles in the development of inmates’ lives as well as in transforming them into better citizens while undergoing rehabilitation inside jails.
Miranda stated that inmates have the rights to avail of government and non-government services, which are necessary in their personal growth and development as they prepare in going back to their families.
“We are thankful that there are several civil society organizations as well as government agencies that are helping our inmates, be it on material or social services. These assistance from the communities are really helpful towards effective correction administration,” Miranda said.
On the other hand, Atty. Glenda Pazziuagan of the Regional Trial Court said court ensures inmates that their rights are upheld and they are even the priorities in the scheduling of case hearings.
On the part of communications, PIA Regional Director Purita S. Licas stated that media has also a role in correction administration as inmates most of the time resort to media when there are message they want to convey to the government or to their loved ones.
She also stressed that the media is the medium in explaining to the public the situation of inmates as well in watching over their cases. It is also the medium in preparing the community in accepting those who are returning to their families after being released from jails. (TCB/OTB/PIA-2)
